Orthios hosts Penrhos beach clean to mark opening of its litter picking hub

Diary date:      Saturday 2nd October 2021, 10.00am – midday approx.

The Holyhead-based green technology and recycling company Orthios marks its adoption as a litter picking kit lending site by Keep Wales Tidy by hosting a community beach clean that will conclude with free chips for all pickers.

Penrhos Beach, Holyhead, Anglesey

Doorstep action to ease plastics pollution and climate change is becoming easier on Anglesey thanks to Orthios Eco Parks teaming up with Keep Wales Tidy to give local people and visitors easier access to litter-picking kit free of charge.

The new kit will get its first public outing on Saturday 2nd October (10.00am to midday) when the Holyhead-based green technology and recycling company hosts an ‘everyone welcome’ beach clean and lunch party at Penrhos Beach.

Orthios CEO Sean McCormick says: “The climate challenge can seem daunting but the fact is that we can all do our bit to ease carbon emissions. Making free use of our Keep Wales Tidy litter picking kit is one way to do this. It not only keeps Anglesey looking good but also ensures any rubbish gathered gets properly recycled – cutting carbon emissions by reducing the need for raids on Earth’s finite resources, including fossil fuels, to make entirely new stuff.”

He added: “As an extra incentive and to add to the fun, our beach clean will end with a visit from the Chippy Chippy van, serving free chips and a hot or cold drink for everyone who has taken part.”

Representatives of Keep Wales Tidy will be on hand to explain how to litter pick safely while Sean and other members of Orthios’s fast-growing team will be available to answer questions about the company’s innovative work to turn unwanted plastics into a synthetic oil.

Orthios’s litter picking kit can now be borrowed, free of charge, seven days a week.
