In October 2016 works on our Holyhead site commenced with the demolition and clearing of a large proportion of the previous industrial aluminium smelting complex. Where possible, we sought to retain existing buildings which could be repurposed as part of the Orthios plans for an Energy Centre and Eco Park.
The demolition works were completed in the late Autumn of 2018.
Orthios has elected to retain the 121 meter tall chimney on site for the time being.
The reuse of existing infrastructure is a principal element of our ethos and sustainability agenda. Some of the retained buildings have enabled tenancy agreements on site, facilitating job creation.
